MEET H&FS CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
MIKE DAWISHA

The Division of Housing & Food Services welcomes Mike Dawisha, our new chief technology officer. Mike has taken over for the recently-retired Dick Sigelko and is overseeing Information Services and Spartan Cash for H&FS.

Mike DawishaHis History

Mike is no stranger to university IT systems — most recently, he served as technical director at Walsh College, where he managed the IT department for the Troy and Novi campuses.

Before Walsh, Mike acted as chief information officer for the Macomb Oakland Regional Center (MORC), the largest independent non-profit in Michigan. MORC is a human services agency, which provides support and care for more than 4,000 children and adults with developmental and psychiatric disabilities in Macomb and Oakland Counties. During his tenure at MORC, Mike oversaw the organization’s IT and medical buildings.

What He Loves

Mike enjoys taking three-day weekend trips with his wife, Frodet, and Toronto, Chicago and Atlanta are among his favorite travel destinations. He also loves spending time with his eight-year-old son, Alexander, who’s an avid sports fan. Mike has coached Alexander in tee-ball and is also involved in his basketball and soccer teams.

“There’s no doubt that having an eight-year-old son is a lot of fun.”

Fun Fact

Mike is originally from Windsor, Canada and is doing his part to break down his homeland’s stereotypes.

“I’m a Canadian who doesn’t know hockey and doesn’t handle beer!”

Why MSU?

Working at Walsh solidified Mike’s love of the IT world of higher education and for him, MSU was a natural fit.

“This was a great opportunity to work for a world-class employer and a well-known institution,” said Mike. “MSU is the best of both worlds really, it’s a higher education institution and there is a quality relationship between the institution and its employees. MSU really develops and invests in its people — who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?”

What’s on the Horizon?

Mike and his Information Services crew will be riding the Division change-wave and will continue to focus on performance, customer-centric service and the Division’s technology strategy.

“I feel like this is the best possible time to be joining and/or be a part of the Division,” said Mike. “We’re all moving in a positive direction and changing together in our own special ways.”
